FOCUS continues to reach out to the local university community to make sure that students working in coatings technology and color design have an opportunity to interact with industry professionals and decision makers. This year, FOCUS 2017 has collaborated with local universities – College for Creative Studies and Eastern Michigan University – to create an opportunity for students to share their work with us.
The College for Creative Studies strives to give students all the tools for successful careers in the dynamic, growing creative industries. CCS fosters students’ resolve to pursue excellence, act ethically, engage their responsibilities as citizens, and learn throughout their lives. Students work in small classes and receive individual attention from teachers who are accomplished artists, scholars and industry professionals. Undergraduates declare their majors as freshmen and take both major studio and foundation courses in their first year. Facilities are unsurpassed, ranging from a blacksmithing shop to an advanced rapid prototyping lab. Student services provide support outside the classroom, including academic advising, mentoring, counseling, and tutoring. Students’ potential for success after college is enhanced by an effective career services office that assists with internships and job placement and has relations with numerous corporations that employ our graduates and sponsor projects in our studios. A strong alumni network helps students with the transition to the working world.
Recently CCS’s graduate design department has launched the first ever Color and Materials Design program in the United States. This new program is a result of automotive companies and manufacturers needing designers with a specialized expertise in colors and materials. The College also is committed to and deeply engaged in community service.
Eastern Michigan University offers unique academic programs in the highly specialized field of Polymers and Coatings Technology. The B.S. and M.S. programs in Polymers and Coatings Technology have been well received by industries and students are finding gainful employment and career development in this niche field. Since last few years, EMU is also offering PhD in Technology degree wherein student can pursue their research in P&C concentration. The faculty members are highly qualified and well recognized in the profession. EMU enjoys reputation of engaging in such specialized academic programs, research and professional services.
EMU’s Coatings Research Institute (CRI) is only of its kind in the USA. Faculty members work on innovative and challenging research through external funding and contributing to the development of cutting edge technology, while students gaining incredible learning experience. CRI is always willing to partner with industries in jointly addressing technical challenges and finding innovative solutions.
